Surrogate Spotlight: Meet ConceiveAbilities Surrogate Paula Wirth

Be a surrogate

Surrogate Paula Wirth shares her experience of becoming a surrogate

I'm Paula and I live in Littleton, Colorado with my wonderful husband Greg. We've been married for 16 years and have two teenage daughters, ages 12 and 14. Even though we live in the suburbs, we often joke that we live "on the farm," as we have 2 ducks, 6 chickens and a long list of other pets!

I've been a gestational carrier three times now. However, the first time I thought about trying to help another family have a child was in 2009. It was not one specific person who inspired me, rather a collection of stories that I heard from other moms I knew through a mom's group I belonged to. Through their stories and the stories of couples close to them who struggled with infertility, I was inspired to look into the surrogacy process.

Initially, I was most anxious about not knowing how long the process would take. However, that was quickly explained by ConceiveAbilities and the IVF clinic. My husband was extremely supportive and excited about the process from the beginning. My friends and family thought it was strange at first, but were quick to share in my excitement once they learned more. My husband was my biggest and constant support. He listened to me when needed, cared for the house and children, and understood why being a surrogate was important to me. I was surprised by how extremely fulfilled I felt after the delivery of the first baby. Even though I anticipated that the journey would be rewarding, nothing could prepare me for how life changing the delivery was and how I would want to continue to help other families after that.

Kristina says the best moment of her surrogacy journey was watching her intended parents see the child they dreamed about enter the world.

Being a surrogate has changed my life in many ways. It gave me a new appreciation for my own children and husband, humbled me to realize how challenging it is for some intended parents to have a child/children, and it gave me the opportunity to work in this field helping others to build their families.
